Garry Purdham, 31, was one of a dozen people shot dead by Cumbrian gunman Derrick Bird last month. Rob, a year Garry's junior, raced to comfort his family and arrange his brother's funeral in the aftermath of the massacre. But he almost never returned to London because of the work that needed to be done at Garry's farm.

“I felt a part of me needed to stay there," said Rob. "But like his wife said, he would have wanted me to do the best in my career and maybe one day go back up to Cumbria."
