Harrow acrobatic gymnasts Hannah Feeney and Ciara McGrath have been chosen to represent Great Britain in the forthcoming World and International Age Group Championships in Glasgow this October.

The pair competed in trials on June 14 at Lilleshall National Sports Centre in Shropshire.

Hannah, 15, who lives in Edgware and studies at Canons High School, won a silver medal in the 2006 European Age Group Championships. She is part of the 2007 British Open Champion Senior Women's Group, now selected for the GB squad, with Grace Blacklock, 23, and Claire-Louise Thompson, 22.

Ciara, 16, who lives in Harrow and attends Harefield Academy, is part of the British Junior Champion Women's Group with Sophie Burfield, 15 and Katie Smith, 14.

Ciara and Katie are three times British Junior champions. They came seventh for Great Britain in 2006 in the International Age Group Championships in Portugal; were part of the British bronze medallist team in Poland 2006 and won individual Bronze and team Silver in the

European Championships 2007. With Sophie, they won gold in the Maia International Acro Cup, Portugal, in March this year.

High performance coach Maxwell, who began coaching at the age of 14, has been selected as one of the Great Britain team coaches.

This will be the fourth time she has coached the squad, having previously coached at the 2006 World and European Team Championships and 2007 European Championships.

Harefield also had promising trials results with rising stars. In Junior Women's Pairs Rachael Prest and Marlborough pupil Poppy Spalding came fourth, as did Hatch End High student Becca Copas and Laura Jarrett in the 11-16 age group women's pairs.

In junior mixed pairs, Matt Short and former St George's pupil Laura Noone came second.

Commenting on the selections, Maxwell said: "The selectors have chosen seasoned Harefield gymnasts who have proved their worth over several internationals.

"Great Britain is second in the world behind the Russians in Acrobatic Gymnastics, so I look forward to some great results in Glasgow."
