Martin Delves improved on his third place in the opening round of the Gor-rick Series by taking top spot in the second race at Tunnel Hill in Mytchett which was postponed two weeks ago due to snow.

The win also took him into the over-all lead in the sports class.

The rescheduled event clashed with a training weekend for a number of riders from the West Drayton Mountain Bike Club but Kim Hurst also kept the flag flying by claiming her second straight win in the women's masters while Martin Turton added second place to his first round victory in the youth race.

Nick Evans managed a very promising 10th on his debut in the expert race.

Other results included eighth for Stefano Detomaso in the masters, ninth for Ben Connor and 73rd for Paolo Ditale in the open and fifth for Jon Pierce in a very competitive veterans race in which Phil Earl was 35th.

Club members are gearing up for another busy season both in terms of participation and organisation.

Although predominantly a mountain bike club, members racked up more than 80 wins in 2008 in a variety of events including road, track, time trial and mountain bike races and also took part in a number of sportives both on and off-road.

Sponsored for the seventh year by Beyond Mountain Bikes as well as Specialized and Warp Systems, the club's first promotions are a series of three road races at the popular Hillingdon Cycle Circuit on March 14, 21 and 28.

On March 15 the club promotes its fifth mountain bike cross-country race at Black Park country park, Slough, sponsored by Dirt Divas and The Crown pub in Cowley.

The prestigious Southern XC mountain bike series gets under way on April 26 when the club hosts the first round at Bordon in Hampshire, a venue regarded as one of the best in the country, with the club's annual Bucks Offroad Classic following on May 10, a mainly off-road ride starting from Denham with four distances to choose from 35km to 121km - probably the longest and hardest off-road enduro of the season. Early entry is strongly advised for what is a popular event - see www.bucksoffroadsportive.co.uk
