Majid Mortazavi and Ravi Gulati took the honours at the fifth annual Heathrow Spidernets knockout tournament last week as the club celebrated their 10th anniversary.

The duo beat Sandeep Gupta and Kulwant Nagi 21-19, 21-16 in the final while Mohit Sharma and Kamilla Fronczek finished third after overcoming Jaypal Rooprai and Curran Rana 21-12 21-12 in a play-off.

The last four were whittled down from a starting list of 32 split into two groups, in which doubles teams played best of three games on four courts.

In Group A, Mortazavi and Gulati eased through on court one, with Gupta and Nagi joining them in the next round, while Prabhat Batra and Mitul Patel made it through on court two, along with Mark Phillips and Rajiv Rao.

In Group B, Sharma and Fronczek went through on court three, followed by Umar Khan and Suman Chand and Rooprai & Rana stormed through comfortably on court four, along with Harish Patel and Saroop Kang.

In the quarter-finals, Mortazavi and Gulati knocked out Phillips and Rao 21-16, 21-16; Gupta and Nagi triumphed over Batra and Patel 21-14, 21-13; Sharma and Fronczek saw off Patel and Kang 21-13, 21-15; and Rooprai and Rana overcame Khan and Chand 23-21, 21-12.

Mortazavi and Gulati then paved the way for their final victory by beating Sharma and Fronczek 21-9, 21-11 in the semis, while Gupta and Nagi knocked out Rooprai and Rana 21-14, 21-15.
