ALAN McCormack reckons Brentford's young guns have proved they can get nasty.

The Bees earned a hard-fought point at Gillingham on Saturday thanks to Farid El Alagui's injury-time equaliser to preserve their unbeaten record.

Uwe Rosler's side matched a physical Gills team, managed by ex Brentford boss Martin Allen.

And Bees midfielder McCormack reckons they showed they can mix it up.

“We withstood their battle, which was good to see,” said the Irishman.

“We planned all week for what they were going to do.

“Some of the lads had played under Martin Allen and know what he's about. He likes his team to be physical, and coming against a footballing side they tried to battle us off the pitch.

“We're a young side but I felt we gave as good as we got in that respect. We can be big and strong and then let our footballing talent come out.”

Sub El Alagui pounced in the dying minutes to cancel out Bayo Akinfenwa's first-half opener and rescue a share of the spoils.

But McCormack admits the draw was a setback.

“I think it's two points dropped,” he added. “No offence to Gillingham, but with a squad like ours and the ambition we've got we have to come to places like this and win.

“We're disappointed. We're relieved to get a point in the end, but the dropped points might come back to haunt us later on.”
