CONOR McAleny hopes his spell at Brentford will boost his chances of breaking into the Everton first-team squad.

The highly-rated 21-year-old came through the ranks at Goodison Park, making his debut as a substitute against Norwich City in 2011.

However, McAleny hasn't featured for the Toffees for almost two seasons and has less than 12 months to run on his deal.

But the forward hasn't given up hope of making the grade on Merseyside and reckons his time in TW8 can help his cause.

“This is the final year of my contract at Everton,” he said. “I've been there since I was 11 and my ambition is still to play for the first team there.

“I'll see what happens this season. I've played for the U21s for long enough, it's time for me to get some regular first-team football.

"That's the way I will develop. Hopefully my time here will help me to do it.”
