Mitchell Jones from Lowlands Club, in Eastcote, blew the opposition away to take the men’s singles title at the Wembley & Harrow League Closed Championships.

The 17-year-old beat Mohammed Owadally of Vagabonds in a tightly-contested final, the consistency of Jones’ topspin forehand proving the difference in the end.

Jones (pictured) is currently ranked 16 in England at U18 level and will rapidly move up the rankings if he continues his current form.

Jones saw off Kiran Chimbandaran, representing Eastcoste Table Tennis Club, in the semi-final showing his class to dispatch his opponent 3-0.

In the mixed doubles, Fanny Speck and Chimbandaran were crowned champions after beating Hilary Birmingham and Ian Mablin, from Headstone and Eastcote respectively.
