ADRIAN Patulea marked the final game of his three-month loan spell with a goal as Hayes & Yeading ended their six-match losing sequence in front of just 190 spectators.
Leyton Orient striker Patulea, who has endured an injury-plagued spell at Church Road, at least bade farewell with a goal from the penalty spot in what is likely to be his last game for the club.
In front of the lowest gate in the Blue Square Bet Premier this season, the hosts ended the match with 10 men with Bradley Prichard receiving a second yellow card for deliberately handling a cross into the net.
A typically energetic run from Prichard down the right brought the reward of a penalty in the 17th minute when he was sent sprawling in the box by Matt Crabb and Patulea made no mistake from 12 yards.
That breathed new life into Garry Haylock's strugglers and they piled the pressure on fellow Blue Square Bet Premier basement boys Eastbourne.
The pressure brought the reward of a second five minutes later when Tom Cadmore met Graeme Montgomery's corner with a glancing header that found the bottom corner of the net.
However, Eastbourne fired a warning shot that the hosts would not have it all their own way when Jamie Taylor attempted a clever lob after going clean through, but Hayes & Yeading goalkeeper Niki-Lee Bulmer just stretched enough to turn it away.
Hayes & Yeading were barely troubled after the break by a side that beat them 5-0 in the corresponding fixture last season.
And Patulea came close to make it even more comfortable when his well-struck shot was just turned away by Eastbourne goalkeeper Rikki Banks, skipper Peter Holmes and substitute Phil Appiah both going close before the end.
Borough took full advantage of Pritchard's dismissal to get one back four minutes from time through substitute Nathan Crabb and Bulmer had to tip over from Joe Partington in injury-time as the visitors came so close to a last-gasp equaliser.
But Hayes & Yeading held on for a much-needed victory that means they are now only in the relegation zone due to an inferior goal difference.
Hayes & Yeading: Bulmer, Green, Cadmore, Holmes, Patulea (Appiah), Pritchard, Yiadom, Wassmer (Deen), Hyde (Wishart), Montgomery, Webb.
