WEST Ealing Bowls Club’s Ron Leleux is just one win away from a place in the National Championship after recording four wins in a single day this week.

Leleux saw off opponents, including club-mates Rob Green and Paul Cater, to book a place in the semi-finals of the Middlesex 2-wood competition later this month, where victory will send him to Worthing for a crack at the national crown.

It was a busy week for Leleux, who is also through to the sixth round of the Middlesex County Pairs with partner Cater, who in turn reached the same stage of the fours, as did another West Ealing foursome, led by Robin Innes.

There was not such good news in the Bowls England Top Club competition where West Ealing bowed out after losing 4-1 at home to Uxbridge. The only rink to win on the day comprised Innes, Green and Barry Wheeler.

Any lingering hopes of winning their Middlesex League group also appear to have gone following a 70-56 loss to Masonians, where their rivals claimed all 10 points on offer.

The reverse leaves West Ealing adrift of leaders Rosedale having played two games more.

In other action, West Ealing defeated Priory Park A 40-26, thanks largely to a 22-12 rink win for the trio of Ejaz Faruqi, Mags Hodgson and Roy Bond.
