LEON Legge wants to play in the Championship – but hopes he can do it with Brentford.

We revealed yesterday that the no-nonsense centre-back is being tracked by two Championship clubs, while League One rivals Charlton Athletic are also believed to be keen on the 25-year-old.

Legge, who still has a year to run on his contract, admits he's desperate to play at the top, but wants to help the Bees get out of League One.

He said: "Like everyone, I want to play at the highest level I can. It's tough, do you go to a club at a higher level and risk not playing? Or do you stay at a club and be a regular there.

"But I'm happy at Brentford and I've had two good years here - better than I ever imagined.

"The ideal scenario is to get the club into the Championship. That's the vision of the owner and it would be great to play a part in it.

"The potential in the side is there for everyone to see. Hopefully the new manager can get us there."

Legge will probably be on a sun lounger by the time Brentford appoint a long-term successor to Andy Scott.

But he is hell-bent on proving his worth to whoever takes over the hotseat.

"Every player will be in the same position," Legge added.

"It will be a clean slate and we'll all be doing our best to impress.

"But when a new manager comes in he might want to bring in some fresh faces, which could mean some players are moved on."
