LEON Legge admits he's taken a massive gamble joining Brentford – and was even left out of pocket from his move to Griffin Park.
The no-nonsense centre-back was Bees boss Andy Scott's fourth summer signing after joining from non-league minnows Tonbridge Angels three weeks ago.
Legge combined playing for the cash-strapped Ryman Premier outfit with a job as a support worker for people with learning disabilities.
However, he ditched his day job for a shot at a professional career in west London.
He said: "Working as a support worker for those with learning difficulties was a fulfilling job, and was hard to give up.
"I was happy where I was, and I could've easily stuck with what I was doing.
"But playing full-time football was a dream since I was young, and I would rather try and fail than not try at all. I hope it doesn't come to that.
"I did have to take a pay cut to come here, but there was a lot of travelling involved with Tonbridge.
"I was doing long 12-hour days at work then having to go straight to football. It could get really tiring, especially if you're playing away midweek with an early start the next morning."
