Brilliant Bedfont Green can land the Combined Counties Premier title on Saturday if they avoid defeat at home to title rivals Epsom & Ewell.

A 3-2 win at another leading rival, North Greenford United, on Monday, combined with a home defeat for Epsom, put Green 12 points clear with four games left.

Although Epsom have an extra game left and could still catch Dennis Bainborough's men, they too will be unable to do so if they fail to beat Green on Saturday.

Goals from Chris Henry, Phil Merritt and Ray Sherwood saw Green come from behind twice to beat North Greenford following a 2-2 draw with Egham two days before, in which Gavin Hart and Carl McLusky notched.

Green chairman Doug White said: "We have a point to get and a point to prove. Not many people took us seriously when we made it into senior football a few years back, but they are sitting up and taking notice now."

Although Green should land the title on Saturday, they will probably be given the trophy at their last home game of the season, against neighbours Bedfont.

And the game took on added spice when it became clear this week that three teams could go down from the Combined Counties Premier.

Despite losing 1-0 to Banstead on Saturday and 3-1 to Wembley on Monday, Bedfont are well clear of the traditional two relegation places. But having slipped to third-bottom, they are right back in the mire and may have to beat their rivals to stayup.

The game is set for Saturday, May 2 at Windsor & Eton FC, where Green are groundsharing.

But if Windsor make the Southern League Division One play-offs, they may require their ground that day, so the Bedfont derby could be moved back to Sunday 3 or Monday4.

Whatever happens, Bedfont will not find out their fate until a few weeks later, according to league secretary Alan Constable.

He said: "It is possible three could go down. It depends on what happens with teams coming down and up.

"We could have two teams come

down to us from Ryman One South, or none. And out of the five teams going for the top three places in Combined Counties Division One, only Mole Valley, Hanworth Villa and Dorking can be promoted, while Knaphill and Staines Lammas can't.

"The FA will have a meeting over the weekend of May 9-10 to decide the fate of all the promoted and relegated clubs, so we'll probably find out on May11."

Hanworth Villa did their Division One promotion chances no good by losing 4-0 at Worcester Park on Monday, having done the hard bit two days before by holding title rivals Dorking 2-2, with goals from Mark Buss and Matt Grave.

But neighbours CB Hounslow United did them a favour, recovering from a 4-1 thrashing at Knaphill to beat Staines Lammas 1-0 on Monday, thanks to Andrew Stirling's strike.

Feltham lost narrowly 2-1 to leaders Mole Valley on Saturday, but won at Frimley Green by the same score on Monday.
