NORTHWOOD salvaged a thrilling late draw as Harpenden seconds failed to hit the winning run from the last ball of the innings.

With five overs left, the visitors needed just 20 runs with five wickets in hand.

But a superb spell of Northwood bowling and tight fielding saw four wickets fall and the scores level on 211.

Opener Danny Rodgers (71) had got Northwood off to a strong start, but aside from Simon Noach (41), the middle order did little and the hosts were all out in the 52nd over.

Northwood's bowling troubled Harpenden with James Lewis taking two wickets and Simon Noach taking three to put Harpenden on 75-5. But captain Dave Whitley and keeper Graeme Sprowson put on more than 100 together to set up the thrilling finale.

A DISASTROUS weekend's results saw all three Manor teams fall away from the promotion places.

The first XI entered an awful performance on a blameless batting track at Gerrards Cross to slump to 125 all out.

After Aftab Akram had given the side a solid start, Azim Karim blasted 28 and Simon Webb 24, but neither went on to make a telling contribution and the innings slipped away.

When the home side came to bat, Scott Morris bowled beautifully but, without runs on the board to exert pressure, it came to nothing as they crashed to defeat.

Meanwhile, the second string failed despite a good start against Wokingham.

Runs from Tim Barratt (22) Julian Corbin (24) and Grant Morris (34) gave them a great platform at 95-2. Unfortunately, the middle order folded like a pack of cards and it was left to a ninth-wicket partnership of 22 between Matt Read and Gary Smith to allow them to end on 140 all out.

Wokingham didn't have it easy though, and veteran Smith rolled back the years to pick up three wickets and Mo Sherali added 2-28, but the visitors crawled across the line seven wickets down.

The third team completed a miserable weekend, with Mark Seymour's 31 the only contribution of note as they were bowled out for just 99 as Ruislip cruised to victory.
