SPARTAN SOUTH MIDLANDS PREMIER

Leverstock Green 3

Hillingdon Borough 1

HILLINGDON Borough produced a late rally but could not prevent defeat at Leverstock Green.

The home side raced to a three-goal lead before substitute Ruben Lourenco came off the bench and scored to set up an exciting finish that eventually saw Boro leave empty handed.

There was an early chance for the visitors with Adam Bunce getting on the end of a Kyle Matthews cross, however his header was cleared off the line by James Dabbs.

Leverstock goalkeeper Tom Coulton was called into action again on 26 minutes, turning a Matthews shot round the post, and again two minutes later saving from Murray Williamson with his legs.

But a well-worked goal saw the Green take the lead as Dabbs passed to Kris Tyrell, who sped away and flashed a cross across the box for Adiel Mannion to tuck home.

Mannion was a thorn in Boro’s side and he doubled his tally shortly after the break, rounding the onrushing Mark Smith before slotting home coolly to put the hosts firmly in control.

And it was three on 69 minutes as the influential Dabbs picked up the ball in midfield and unleashed a vicious 25-yard piledriver that whistled into the roof of the net.

Lourenco was then thrown on by Hillingdon and he made an impact as he soon got on the scoresheet with a powerful shot to give his side a glimmer of hope as time ticked away.

James Budden was penalised for an infringement five minutes from time, giving Boro the chance to narrow the gap further from the penalty spot, however Matthews’ spot-kick was saved and Boro’s lingering hopes of a point were gone.

Hillingdon were last night (Tuesday) due to travel to Haringey Borough as they look to get back to winning ways in the league.

Elsewhere, Harefield United’s game with Aylesbury was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch on Saturday.

Phil Granville’s side were last night due to host Stotfold.
