EASTCOTE ladies warmed up for the new season in fine style by recording a win double in the Ashford Hockey Club Summer League.

The club entered both the Tuesday and Thursday night leagues, with Rachel Wicks taking charge of the Tuesday team, which was largely the Colts Academy side made up of promising U14 and U16 girls backed up by a few first team players.

They excelled, winning five out of six fixtures and scoring 19 goals through Emily Reed (12), Anna Tebbs, Katy Brown and Steph Maclannan and conceding only six.

Eastcote waltzed into the final where they faced Walton & Weybridge and despite a torrential downpour they emerged 3-0 winners to become champions of the league.

Emily Reed, Katy Brown and Anna Tebbs found the net.

The Thursday team, run by Hayley Johnson, was a mixture of players from all five of the club's sides and they recorded some impressive results including good wins over tough opponents such as Teddington and Staines.

They also claimed a place in the final against Staines and after going 2-0 up by half-time Eastcote held on to win 3-2.

Meg Williams (2) and Kaz Lau got the goals in the final but Liz Walker was their leading scorer overall with 11.

The club's men's teams were also in action over the summer with five sides taking part in summer leagues.

The firsts finished fifth of 11 in the Southgate League despite only winning one match, with player-coach Adam Mulholland and skipper David Cooper finishing as top scorers.

Eastcote hosted two leagues at their own Astroturf pitch in Kings College Road.

In the A League the hosts came equal third and in the Club League the two Eastcote sides finished first (B team) and third.

A side made up of adults and colts played in the Gerrards Cross Badgers League.

Coached by Harry Lotay, they fielded many of the promising U14 and U16 players and managed four wins and two defeats. [25a0] Anyone interested in joining East-cote can visit their website at www.eastcotehockeyclub.com  or email Hayley Johnson at terrysboots@hotmail.co.uk.
