CALLUM Kennedy hopes his move to AFC Wimbledon can kick-start his career.

The 23-year-old signed for the Dons last week after a difficult spell at Scunthorpe United, where he was restricted to just 11 league starts last campaign.

And the former Swindon Town full-back hopes his switch to Kingsmeadow can get his career back on track after a frustrating time at Glanford Park.

He said: “Brian Laws took over and I wasn't sure I would be playing every game because he brought in another left-back.

“I enjoyed myself there but I wanted to be playing week in, week out.

“I've read a lot that I wanted to move back down south, but it was for footballing reasons.

“I want to come here, play football the right way and hopefully push on and get going again.”

Kennedy was close to joining Wimbledon's League Two rivals Oxford earlier in the summer, only for the deal to collapse at the last minute.

However, he has rubbished reports he failed a medical at the Kassam after struggling with a hamstring injury last year.

He added: “The deal was looking like it was going to go through, but at the last minute the two clubs disagreed over the terms and it fell through.

“I got wind Wimbledon were interested and once I spoke to gaffer I knew I wanted to be a part of it.”
