ANTONIO Kaufusi has ordered his London Broncos team-mates to string some more wins together and take the flak off head coach Rob Powell.

Kaufusi scored a try with the last play of the game to beat Widnes 28-24 last weekend, lifting Broncos off the bottom of Super League with only a third win of the season.

Powell has taken some flak from the terraces following a difficult season for the Broncos, but Kaufusi insists he still has the backing of the squad.

He said: “At the end of the day, Rob works hard and does all he can to prepare us – it's us players who goes out onto the pitch and puts the performances in.

“He's got a lot of stick, but we are 110 per cent behind Rob, and we now need to string some more wins together to take the pressure off him.”

Kaufusi, who was this week selected in the Exiles 22-man squad to take on England tomorrow, celebrated like a wild man after scoring the last-gasp winner against Widnes, and admits his emotions went through the wringer.

He said: “It was a mixture of joy and relief, and everyone was buzzing after the game. I didn't think I was going to get to the ball, but I got into position and Julien Rinaldi looked up to put me in.

“You have to keep chipping away and things like that can happen. It wasn't pretty, but we needed the win badly, and it was nice to be on the right end of a narrow scoreline for a change.

“Nobody likes to be bottom of the league, and we have been working hard in training, so you would like to think we can build on this.”

The Exiles game means there is no Super League programme this weekend, but Broncos are back in action on Sunday week when they travel to Yorkshire to take on the Huddersfield Giants.
