MARTIN Jol lamented his team's luck as they found themselves trying to repair the damage from a dodyy penalty and an own goal at Manchester City.
The Whites seldom looked like causing the league leaders any discomfort in the evening match at the Etihad Stadium, but were not helped by the 10th minute goal conceded after Adam Johnson had apparently taken a dive to earn a spot kick off Chris Baird.
"I think they were lucky to be 2-0 up. Of course they were the better team, but in the second half I think the possession was probably in our advantage," Jol said.
"The first goal, I don't think was a penalty and the second was an own goal.
"The only thing was that every time we linked up in midfield, we seemed to do well. We had six or seven good attacks - I think Moussa Dembele was a handful for them - but we were a bit nervous and almost victims of ourselves.
"We had a couple of chances, but of course the third goal killed us off. Then obviously all you can think of is your goal records because it could have been a disaster."
Baird, who conceded an own goal for the second as well as being involved in the penalty, had a game to forget, but Jol defended his selection of the right-back instead of Riise.
"Chris Baird was very unlucky," said the Fulham manager. "They normally play with David Silva on that flank, so I needed a right sided full-back in Chris, who has played there before and he has done very well for us. But today he was very unlucky."
