BRETT Johnson admits the writing was on the wall before he was released by Brentford.

Johnson is set to sign for AFC Wimbledon on August 1, and has been doing pre-season training with Terry Brown's boys.

And he insists he holds no hard feelings towards Bees boss Andy Scott after being shown the door by the club he's supported his whole life.

He said: "I was gutted. I started so well, but couldn't get back in the side after being injured.

"I knew by February or March that I would probably be released. I've got nothing against Scotty.

"Ryan Dickson and Sam Wood were playing so well down the left that me and Glenn Poole weren't involved.

"I popped down to see the boys at the training ground last week, and wish them all the best."

Johnson fulfilled a lifelong ambition to play for his boyhood heroes, and despite spending just a year at Griffin Park, he's delighted he played a part in their League Two triumph.

He added: "It was great just to play for Brentford.

"Obviously I didn't play as much as I would've liked, but felt I did my bit."
