TARA took the Junior Championship title for the second year running with a surprisingly comfortable win over Fr Murphy's.

The Greenford side wrapped up the Senior and Junior Championship double with a 7-5 to 2-2 victory over their rivals.

Jesse Greene racked up a personal tally of 4-4 as Tara never looked like surrendering the initiative after going 3-3 up at the mid-point of the first half.

The combination of Greene and Rosie Sutcliffe up front was just too hot to handle for the Fr Murphy's defence.

Sutcliffe bagged Tara's first goal after a pass from Greene and the pair never looked back.

Tara's midfield were also on top, sending in quality ball to Tara's forwards.

In defence, Nollaig Barron cleaned up any danger and Fr Muphy's were held to two points in the first half, an Emma Taylor free and a Sue Harding point.

Sutcliffe bagged a second goal, and it was a gem. She seized possession around the 40-yard line, took off on a speedy solo run and struck superbly into the bottom corner.

It was 4-4 to 0-2 to Tara at the break and the game already looked up.But perhaps the goal of the day came after the break in another Greene-Sutcliffe combination.

Greene gathered the ball on the end line and sent a ball across the 21 right into the hand of Sutcliffe, who buried the ball into the net.

A top class goal by any standards and her third of the match. Following last year's championship win, it is a credit to the club that they have found a winning combination in spite of changes to the line-up.

The winning team was: Jacqui Thornton, Orla Maguire, Christina Nash, Nollaig Barron, Suzanna Gill, Cat Dwyer, Collette Fahy, Grace Hamilton, Marian Coleman, Sheila Fernandes, Rosie Sutcliffe, Jess Greene.

Subs: Debs Laurence for Nash, Sarah Gaughan for Dwyer, Claire Ahern for Coleman.

The coaches are Paul Walsh, Brian Mansfield, Tommy McConnon and Mags Heneghan.
