TAKE one lazy but very talented bunch of Antipodeans, mix into a brand new rugby league side and hey presto - we have Hammersmith Hills Hoists.

The exiles, based around Hammersmith and Shepherd's Bush, weren't that interested in schlepping to Osterley to play for West London Sharks, or down to Croydon to turn out for South London Storm.

So Hills Hoists were founded and ended up joining the London Metro League.

Big mistake - for the other sides in the league one down from Sharks that is.

Expecting a few interested souls to turn up once word got out - the beginning of the season saw 40 names on Hammersmith's books.

And not just any old Fosters-swilling Aussies with beer guts looking for a run-out on a Saturday afternoon.

Hills Hoists have talent oozing out of every XV that's run in an average 60 points a game so far.

But this Saturday, they might be stretched to a leaner score when they take on the Belgian national side. The honour of doing so is doubled because the game in Wavre will be the first-ever rugby league match played in that country.

Despite the fact the sport in Belgium is in its infancy, Hills Hoists expect a tough outing.

Coach Paul Farah revealed the national team will include several ex-rugby union internationals, as well as a former English Super League player to beef up the quality.

"We are expecting a really tough hit out from the Belgium players. They will have plenty of size and skill," said Farah.

For all that, Hammersmith will take some stopping.

The massed ranks of green and gold (what else?) also played the teams they couldn't be bothered to join at the beginning of the season.

Results? Both Storm and Sharks (twice) were comprehensively beaten.
