A KNEE injury could scupper Louie Soares’ chances of striking a deal with Hayes & Yeading.

Soares, released by Grimsby Town this summer, is a fans’ favourite from his first stint with United in 2011-12 when he netted 15 times in 31 matches.

He showed he’s not lost the golden touch by scoring the winner in Saturday’s final pre-season game at Arlesey Town.

But an injury picked up late on in the 2-1 win has thrown a potential move into doubt and Phil Babb is waiting for news on the extent of the problem.

The Gazette understands the former Grimsby may have suffered ligament damage and could be set for six weeks out.

Should Soares need to spend a lengthy spell on the treatment table, Babb may be forced to look elsewhere for re-enforcements.

United kick off the new Conference South campaign this weekend when Bromley are the visitors to Kingfield.
