Kenton Road Club's Carl Bond won an unexpected prize in Saturday's Farnham RC 10-mile time trial on the Bentley Course near Farnham when he gained the 'most improved rider in the last two seasons' prize.

On a very hot afternoon, Carl was timed at 22.30 for the distance, to come 15th overall from the 64 starters. Race winner was James Boyman in 20.26.

Saturday also saw Kenton's Des Gayler competing in the Coventry RC 10 mile time trial, where the race was abandoned halfway through due to a rider being very seriously injured following a near head on collision with a car.

The injured rider was subsequently taken to hospital by air ambulance.

Sunday saw Des competing again, this time with brother Dave, at the car test circuit at Dunton near Brentwood in Essex.

The Cyclos Uno LVRC event over 32 miles was run off at a fast pace, with attacks from the off either being spurred or chased by the Kenton duo.

With three laps to go, two men were 20 seconds clear, with Des making a spirited last attempt to catch the riders.

Two days of racing took its toll, however, and the legs failed with 600 yards to go. Both Des and Dave finished in the bunch.

Kenton's Sunday clubrun covered 55 warm miles over the roads and lanes in the Shenley, Essendon, Welwyn and Radlett areas. Those out included John Markham, Dave Thurtle, Gino Goddard, Peter Sarwan and Duncan Smith.
