Hounslow Heath Golf Club will tomorrow (Saturday) travel to Buckinghamshire in a bid to win the Gordon Forster Bowl.

The competition is organised by the National Association of Public & Proprietary Golf Clubs and Courses, with this year’s final to be held at Abbey Hill Golf Club in Milton Keynes.

The format for The Gordon Forster Bowl is simple, with two players playing at home and two playing away for each team, with the winner of each match the team with the highest aggregate scored by the four individual players.

This year, Hounslow Heath entered two four man teams, and both their A and B teams won three qualifying matches to make it through to this year’s national final.

On the road to the final, the As defeated opposition from Thorney Park, Horsenden Hill and Haste Hill, while the Bs' route to the final was earned with victories over Bird’s Hill, Farnham Park B and Ruislip B.

Competition secretary and former captain, Steve Paton, said: “This is a massive achievement for Hounslow Heath Golf Club, as over recent years our club has seen membership dwindle for many different reasons, including the current financial climate.

“We still have a solid core of around 14 regulars playing members in our club competitions. We are a small and friendly club who welcome any old and new members of all ages and golfing standards.

“I would just like to wish both Hounslow Heath A and B the best of luck in this year’s final. One thing we mustn’t lose sight of on the day is to enjoy the spirit of the final. I am also we can go one better this year, after finishing runners up in last year’s final to Ruislip.”

The club also has two chosen charities who both benefit from their annual charity golf day – the Marjory Kinnon School in Bedfont for children with moderate and complex learning difficulties, and the The Penrose Club in Ashford for adults with special needs.
