Hampstead & Westminster boss Thea Hitchcock says her team are ready to compete for a top four spot.

Hitchcock's side travel to Sugden Road to play second-placed Surbiton in the Pensions Men’s Hockey League Premier Division on Saturday.

And with H&W having started the season strongly and sitting third in the table, Hitchcock hopes her team can continue their impressive form.

She said: “It’s never going to be easy against Surbiton.

"They are looking very good, but Hampstead & Westminster are looking just as good and we’re ready to compete with the top teams and challenge for a top four spot.

“It’s a very new team and it’s going to take time to get everybody up and running, but we had a good result against Beeston last week - they were surprised at how solid we were.”

H&W drew 1-1 with champions Beeston at the weekend to leave them with seven points from their opening four games.

New Zealander Andy Hayward converted from a short corner in the 23rd minute - his sixth goal from that particular play in four games.

A second half goal from Sam Ward put Beeston level and despite both sides pushing for the winner they both ended with a point.

Meanwhile in the Pension's Men's Conference West, Indian Gymkhana secured their first win of the season with a 2-1 victory at home to Cheltenham last Saturday.

Daniel Jackson's first half goal gave Cheltenham the lead however Gymkhana responded with two second half goals from Laxman Karan and Warren D'Souza.

Gymkhana will be aiming to build on that victory when they travel to Barford Tigers on Saturday.

Elsewhere, PHC Chiswick took the spoils in their derby with H&W thirds.

Goals from Alex Earnshaw, Ceilidh Walker and Helen Taylor secured a 3-0 victory for the home side.
