HILLINGDON triple-jumper Rochelle Jones is aiming to follow in the footsteps of her coach Larry Achike and go all the way to the top after her superb performance at the British Universities Indoor Athletics Championships.

Brunel student Jones (left), age 20, jumped her personal best of 12.04 metres to clinch a bronze medal at the national championships last weekend in Sheffield.

She credits her success to the influence of former Commonwealth triple-jump champion Achike.

"Being in Larry Achike's training group has helped me grow as an athlete," she said. "He has helped me gain a lot more confidence therefore I shall be jumping far greater distances this season."

Three other athletes coached by Achike in his Brunel University group enjoyed success at the same championships.

International Business student Hannah Frankson, age 22, went one better with a distance of 12.76m.

Brunel secured a men's one-two as Nathan Fox retained his gold medal with a jump of 15.21m and will look to make it three in a row next year.

Aviation Engineering student Michael Puplampu took the runners up spot, jumping a distance of 15.15m.

Jermaine Olasan, who is currently studying psychology, added to Brunel's medal haul when he won gold in the long jump with a mark of 7.28m.
