HAYES & Yeading boss Garry Haylock said his side deserved to take the prized scalp of league leaders AFC Wimbledon after they had to settle for a point last night.
Relegation-haunted Hayes & Yeading made light of the 29 points difference between the two sides at Church Road with a performance that left Haylock disappointed with just a draw.
“I told the players afterwards that it was a measure of their performance that I was disappointed not to get all three points,” Haylock said.
“But that is the problem we have got. We play like that against AFC Wimbledon and York after being rubbish at places like Altrincham and getting nothing.
“I said at the start of the season that this was a team capable of finishing in the top-10 and if you looked at that performance last night you would not know what team was top of the league.”
However, Haylock knows that producing such a praiseworthy performance against Terry Brown's men will count for nothing if Hayes & Yeading lose at Rushden & Diamonds on Saturday.
“It cannot be just for one game – we have to start putting three or four performances like that together on a run,” he added. “If we can get three points on Saturday then we will have produced three good performances and got four points out of nine – we would have taken that beforehand.”
