HAYES & Yeading ended a mixed bank holiday weekend with a narrow defeat to Conference South pacesetters Eastbourne Borough.

Simon Johnson’s second-half volley secured all three points for the visitors at Kingfield as Eastbourne remain the only unbeaten team in the division.

The loss comes just two days after United appeared to have turned the corner with a stunning 3-1 victory at Boreham Wood.

Skipper Luke Williams, winger Kamaron English and no-nonsense centre-half Dean Inman were all on target in that win.

However, nobody in red could find the net this afternoon as Johnson’s fine finish shortly after the restart proved the killer blow to Phil Babb’s side.

Jake Reid and Luke Medley both spurned late chances against the leaders.

Babb’s side will be hoping to bounce back at Dover on Saturday.
