HAYES & Yeading's Wembley dreams were ended at the first hurdle in a stormy FA Trophy tie at Blue Square South Ebbsfleet that saw 18-year-old Nathan Webb sent off.

The young right-back was red-carded for the second time this season after picking up two yellow cards, the second of them hotly contested by the Hayes & Yeading camp.

Manager Garry Haylock went for experience between the sticks with fit-again Lee Harrison preferred to Niki-Lee Bulmer, one of four changes to the Hayes & Yeading side that beat Eastbourne Borough in midweek.

Jamie Hand replaced the suspended Bradley Pritchard, while Lewis Ferrell came in for the injured Charlie Wassmer and Webb took the spot of Adrian Patulea.

That meant a switch from 4-4-2 with Graeme Montgomery and Andy Yiadom asked to support lone front man Jake Hyde.

But the visitors were put on the back foot early on and they were fortunate not to be reduced to 10 men in the 18 th minute when Tom Cadmore's professional foul on Callum Willock only resulted in a yellow card as referee Simon Long adjudged that there was a covering defender.

However, Hayes & Yeading grabbed the lead against the run of play in the 23 rd minute when skipper Peter Holmes (pictured) marked his return to his old club with a superb goal as his 30-yard drive left Ebbsfleet goalkeeper Preston Edwards with no chance.

The lead lasted never lasted long though as Ebbsfleet scored on the half hour with a fine strike of their own as Joe Howe fired home an angled drive after a pass from Gareth Williams.

Less than four minutes later, the hosts were 2-1 up when Webb failed to clear Michael West's cross and the grounded Willock managed to hook the ball home.

A linesman's flag saved Andy Yiadom's blushes at the other end though when he missed an absolute sitter from close range after Edwards had parried a Mongomery effort into his path.

And the visitors were so unlucky not to go into the break level when Yiadom sent over a teasing cross that Montgomery headed against a post.

But the match exploded for all the wrong reasons in a crazy two-minute spell just before the hour that saw Webb sent off.

Webb first conceded a penalty through a handball, but he was let off the hook when Williams struck wide from 12 yards.

However, there was no reprieve for Webb when his reckless tackle on Tom Phipp resulted in a second yellow card that Hayes & Yeading felt was unjust.

Man-in-the-middle Long then turned down strong appeals for a Hayes & Yeading penalty when substitute Phil Appiah appeared to reach a through ball before Edwards and was brought down.

However, it was all over for Hayes & Yeading when Willock beat Cadmore to a through ball and rounded Harrison, before tapping into an empty net.

Hayes & Yeading: Harrison, Ferrell, Green, Cadmore, Holmes, Deen (Appiah 62), Hand, Yiadom (McLean 79), Hyde, Montgomery, Webb.
