The London Youth Games got under way in Harrow this week as the capital's cricketers fought it out in this year's first event.

Europe's largest youth sports competition returned to Harrow Leisure Centre on the weekend, with a Brent team hoping to make it through a difficult group stage.

In their first match they stormed to victory against Barnet, smashing 123 for just three wickets before bowling Barnet all out for 54.

The second tie was a far tougher fixture and Brent were narrowly edged out by Hounslow, who reached their target of 71 with two overs to spare.

Despite a comfortable 21-run win in the third tie against Kensington and Chelsea, however, Brent failed to qualify for the finals.

In total the games are expected to see more than 30,000 athletes from all London boroughs compete in as many as 35 sports.
