HARROW clinched their fourth promotion in four years on Saturday, but chairman Andy Smart is not celebrating yet.

Smart’s side recorded a 22-0 win at Hendon to secure their passage into London Three North West for next season.

Two tries in each half proved the difference for Harrow, but there was no wild celebrations on the final whistle as promotion was confirmed. The party is on ice until the last game of the season, as Smart wants to see off the threat of Old Merchant Taylors and go up as champions.

“It was an awful game of rugby at the weekend, but it was a fantastic result,” Smart said this week.

“There wasn’t really a celebration. It was all very low key and everything is geared towards the final game on April 13 against Millhillians.

“We haven’t finished what we set out to do – this is only the first stage, and we’re looking to win in the cups still. The two cups we are still in keep us sharp and give us our edge.”

“We can still be caught by Taylors, so there is everything to play for. I’ve said all along that we want to go up as champions and it would be disappointing if we didn’t because the little blip we had after Christmas.

“Taylors are the form side at the moment. There’s a possibility that Hackney could still overtake them as well. If we can get something out of the Taylors game on April 6 and we can beat Old Millhillians that should be enough.”

This Saturday, Harrow host Feltham in the semi-final of the Middlesex Federation Vase as the quest for trophies continues.
