Harrow Bowls Club created history by winning the double rink title on the day it staged the 2008 Middlesex County Bowling Association County Finals for the first time in its 106-year history.

The host club met rivals Century BC from Wembley and both sides did not give an inch as the score was tied at 37 shots each following 21 ends.

Playing an extra end to determine the outcome it looked as if the MCBA title was on its way back to Wembley when Century skipper Frank Oliver needed to bowl within a yard of the displaced jack. However, he failed by the narrowest of margins, sending the Harrow contingent into raptures.

The victorious doubles rink team were: Mike Clements (cpt), Alan Bellamy, Brian Moates, Jim Hughes, Brian Elbourn, Jack Webb, Wally Rose and Richard Southgate.

Meanwhile, Paddington's Norman Worley contested three finals and won the men's singles when they defeated North London's Jim Paveling 21-18.
