DAVE Anderson insisted he would be keeping his eyes on the bigger picture despite Harrow Borough’s tough start to the season.

Only Hampton – and they have a game in hand – are below Anderson’s side after the first six games which have yielded only two points and none at all over a bank holiday weekend which saw 2-0 defeats to arch rivals Wealdstone and Metropolitan Police respectively.

The Borough boss has previously stated his current squad is the best he has assembled in his three seasons at Earlsmead.

And despite clamour for change among the small but loyal support, it seems the vastly experienced man of the dugout is not about to sound the alarm despite admitting more tough fixtures lie ahead.

He said: “While journalists have to get a headline and supporters panic, managers have to have perspective and experienced managers have that so I know where I am with things.

“We are not a bad side and we will win games. The start of the season has been difficult and it is probably not even a case of six games. It is probably the first 10.

“Leiston are next who are spending big money and then we have Dulwich who are the best footballing side I’ve seen for a number of years.

“We seem to have this conversation every year, but it is about 42 games not six, so of course I want to be in a better position and win football matches, but experience tells you to look at the big picture and that is what we are keeping an eye on.”

Not that Anderson is missing the devil in the detail.

The former AFC Wimbledon boss is in fact blissfully aware of the fact his side’s only goals have come from set plays or an opposition defender and his three out and out strikers, Leroy Griffiths, Simeon Akinola and Chris Benjamin do not have one between them so far.

He added: “It is easy to blame defenders for goals against, but I’m pointing the finger at us in the opposition’s box.

“We have had enough chances in the games played so far to score a minimum of 12 goals and we have not got one in open play, so it’s something that needs to change. We need to be more clinical and if we do that we are not doing an awful lot wrong.

“The big thing we have to do is keep the players’ confidence up because I don’t think we are bad. We are a side that’s developing.”

Meanwhile tenants Hendon drew 1-1 with Wingate & Finchley on Monday having been beaten 3-2 at Enfield Town on Saturday.
