HARROW Athletic Club qualified for the UK Women's League, Britain's premier female club competition, with an outstanding and committed display at Abingdon on Saturday.

Despite a depleted team and several late withdrawals, the 15-strong Harrow squad covered every event to secure second spot behind Portsmouth, but ahead of Notts, Luton and Aldershot, to grab a place in UKWAL Division Four for 2010.

Angela Barrett led the way with a convincing victory in the triple jump, recording an excellent 12.27m. She also took second in the long jump and fourth in the high jump. Zara Asante provided great support, taking the B string triple jump with a personal best of 11.28 and scoring good points in the B long jump and high jump.

Angela Mitchell also claimed victory, taking the discus with 36.50m, despite a troublesome elbow. She also picked up useful points in the shot.

Elsewhere in the field, Alice Humble was second in the pole vault with 3.10m, while Beatrix Turner returned from Spain to take second in the B pole vault and A javelin, while also placing third in the B string shot.

Joint team captain Lyndsey Fairweather led from the front, winning the B 800m with an impressive burst of speed over the last 150 metres, as well as taking second spots in the A 400m and the B 200m.

Phillipa Lowe was also in good form, taking third in the 800m in a fast 2.15.13, and tying for second place in the A 200m. Joint skipper Claudia Tabony took second in the sprint hurdles and picked up valuable points in the 400m hurdles and 100m.

Leigh Lattimore placed second in the 3000m behind Aldershot's junior international Emma Pallant, while Amy Concannon took second spot in the B string. Rachel Davies enjoyed a superb day, winning the B string 400m, taking fourth spot on her debut at 2,000m steeplechase and anchoring the 4x400m relay squad to second place.

World championships sprint relay finalist Laura Turner supported the team superbly, scoring useful points in the hammer and javelin, while taking part in the sprint replay.
