SSM Premier League Colney Heath 0 Harefield United 1

WARREN Gladdy's goal kept Harefield in the title hunt with a slender victory at Colney Heath on Saturday.

The long-time leaders were replaced at the Spartan Premier Division summit by Biggleswade Town after their win over neighbours Biggleswade United last week.

Harefield are level on points with their rivals, but have an inferior goal difference of two ahead of Saturday's clash at Broxbourne Borough. They must better Biggleswade's result to stand any chance of landing the league title, who take on third-placed Chalfont St Peter.

Keeper Charlie Miller can be thanked for taking the three points by denying Barry Dowling and Jake Parrett, then producing another fine stop to deny Aaron Clarke.

The visitors landed the killer blow eight minutes before the interval when Gladdy picked up the ball on the left before working an opening and firing home from the edge of the box.

Hares improved after the break, but Miller was called on again on 74 minutes when Parratt got through, only to see his shot saved.

The in-form Harefield keeper was finally beaten four minutes later, but was relieved to see Clarke's effort cannon back off a post.

Hare were awarded a late penalty for hand-ball. However, Alex Brown's spot-kick rattled the crossbar and the rebound was blasted over.
