WYCOMBE House finally had something to celebrate last Wednesday, when they pulled off a real giant-killing.

The Middlesex County League, Division Three strugglers House beat Premier Division outfit Richmond by eight wickets in the Twenty20 Cup.

They bowled out their more illustrious opponents for just 74 in 16.3 overs, then reached their target for the loss of just two wickets in 9.1 overs.

However, House could not repeat their heroics on Saturday, when they returned to league action with a game at Harrow Town.

They just about scraped a losing draw, replying to Harrow's 280-5 with 177-9 before the overs ran out.

Meanwhile, a desperate last-wicket stand saw Wycombe House hold out for a losing draw in the bottom-of-the-table clash with Harrow Town.

House looked doomed when their last batsman Prabjeet Bhogal joined opener Salim Hussain at the crease with 12 overs left and the 280 target well out of reach.

The home side threw everything at them but the pair held firm, Hussain showing incredible patience and determination to finish on 94 not out.

Wycombe had earlier won the toss and put Harrow into bat with the outfield wet.

A couple of dropped catches let the openers set a platform for Tyrone Theophile (78) and Abid Javed (69) to take the total to 280 for 6 from 43 overs.

With the early declaration from Harrow the visitors had 57 overs to get the runs. But some rash shots saw the wickets tumble and Hussain's heroics were needed to salvage a point and end the innings on 177 for 9.

Staines & Laleham recovered from losing skipper Kirk Mullard to the opening ball of their innings to go top of Division Five of the Surrey Championship on Saturday.

Having returned fine bowling figures of 4-52 to help dismiss Dorking for 135, Mullard tried to stamp his authority on Staines' reply from the outset, but only succeeded in lofting the ball to a grateful fielder at mid-off.

But Brett Archer, 29, and Clay Colbert, 30, knuckled down for a partnership of 50, before Harry Colbert and Stephen Weller, with 33 each, took Staines to the brink of victory, Weller being the only remaining casualty.

Earlier, MJ Boswell was the pick of the bowlers with 3-13 to rip the heart out of the Dorking middle-order.

Meanwhile, Peter Roberts dismissed the final Old Tiffinians batsman for the second XI with the scores tied to earn a draw.

Roberts and skipper Mark Stevens had earlier both bagged half-centuries as Staines reached 209, before Adam Fearn took an impressive 5-45.
