HANWELL Town bowed out of the FA Cup at the preliminary round stage, despite a spirited display at home to Ryman Division One North side Concord Rangers.

Lyle Taylor gave Rangers the lead on the stroke of half-time, outpacing Jake Jenkins before rifling past keeper Keiran Jimmy.

Town came out fighting in the second half and were unlucky not to equalise when Chris Mills whipped a shot on to the crossbar.

With Mills, Michael Buckley and Matt O'Brien asserting themselves in midfield, it was Concord's turn to be forced on to the defensive.

But it began to look like it was not going to be Town's day when Wayne Jackson flicked the ball into the path of Blaise O'Brien, who chipped onto the roof of the net.

With 20 minutes remaining, Concord consolidated their lead when an inviting cross from Michael Begg found Danny Heale, who scored from close range.

They made the game safe when Joe Sweeney tapped the ball home after a shot by Begg had been parried by Jimmy.

Town got a consolation goal in the final minute when Buckley's hopeful ball into the box somehow eluded everybody before finding the far corner of the Concord net.

Town face another stiff game on Saturday at Saffron Walden Town in the first qualifying round of the FA Vase, before playing AFC Dunstable in the League's Challenge Cup four days later. [25cf] Southall FC beat CB Hounslow United Social 3-0 away in a friendly at Osterley.

Craig Moss scored in the first half, with Michael McGill and player-manager Ryan DeCosta adding two more after the break.

Southall travel to North Kensington tomorrow (Saturday).
