Staines Town 1

Hampton & Richmond Borough 2

Derby hero Dave Tarpey's delicious double secured Hampton & Richmond Borough a 2-1 win at Staines Town on Tuesday night.

The Beavers failed to record a single league win between October and February before winning 4-0 at Dartford last Saturday.

But just like the proverbial bus, after waiting so long, a second win came along straight away at Wheatsheaf Park.

And while Tarpey’s brace secured the victory – in truth, the rampant Beavers could have wracked up double figures.

Pat O’Connor struck the crossbar just six minutes in, before Staines keeper James Courtnage scrambled a Charlie Moone effort off the line and tipped over a Dean Inman header from the resulting corner.

Ian Hodges headed just wide from a Dean Wells free-kick and James Simmonds had an effort cleared off the line before the visitors finally took the lead six minutes before the break, Tarpey finishing brilliantly from the edge of the area following a sublime through-ball from O’Connor.

Former Swans keeper Matt Lovett got down well to block from Richard Butler, and a Dean Thomas shot was deflected wide from the resulting corner. But Tarpey scored a superb second from the right hand edge of the area on the hour mark after being teed up by Hodges.

Roscoe D’Sane pulled one back on his Staines debut with 10 minutes left, but any hopes they had of a comeback were extinguished when Butler was sent off five minutes later for a second booking.
