Kieran Knight believes Hampton & Richmond can still dislodge AFC Wimbledon at the top of Blue Square South to earn an automatic place in the Conference.

The top two go head-to-head at Beveree this weekend, with the visitors holding the advantage after the Beavers missed a golden opportunity to close the gap on the Dons, who drew at Bromley.

The 0-0 draw at Hayes & Yeading on Monday left Hampton three points adrift with two to play, and because of an inferior goal difference they will need AFC to drop points on the final day when they play mid-table St Albans City at home.

"We are still challenging because they slipped up today," Knight said. "We've got them this week and we know that if we can beat them, we've still got a chance, so there's everything to play for with twogames to go.

"It's a massive game, but we won't get nervous about it. We just need to treat it like another game.

"They are a big club and will probably have more supporters than us at our place, but we'll take it to them like we do to most teams. They are a good passing side, but results recently have shown they are there to be shot at and we fancy our chances."

Knight came agonisingly close to giving Hampton an even better chance of finishing first during a one-sided opening half-an-hour at Hayes. He was twice denied a goal against his old club by keeper Delroy Preddie.

"We'd like to have won today to close the gap and we probably deserved to win it, but that's the way it goes," Knight said. "Nil-nil's still a good result because Hayes have been flying and are a good side.

"I enjoyed being back there. I got a couple of chances but the keeper did well. He won our contest.

"It wasn't a difficult decision to move on though because I didn't think the manager wanted me to stay."
