A FRUSTRATED Orlando Jeffrey has admitted Hampton & Richmond are too easy to beat at the moment, following defeat at Welling on Tuesday.

An early goal from Andy Pugh and another in stoppage time from Jake Hobbs saw them go down 2-0 to the Wings.

The defeat angered manager Alan Devonshire so much, he kept the players out on the pitch for 20 minutes after the final whistle.

It left giant centre-back Jeffrey (pictured) lamenting another dismal performance, which saw the Beavers concede yet another soft goal, coupled with a distinct lack of firepower.

He said: "Dev is frustrated and so are the players, because you don't go out to play badly. Our defending on their free kick was schoolboyish really, as we should have been able to react to the situation and deal with it. We are conceding too many goals at the moment and are easier to beat than we would like."

The Beavers had plenty of possession and pressure over the 90 minutes, yet substitute Ashley Smith's stoppage-time shot was their first on target in the whole of the match.

While Jeffrey admits the lack of goals is a concern, it's the defence, rock solid over the previous two seasons, he's the most worried about.

"We can't quite put our finger on where all these goals are coming from," he said. "There are little lapses in concentration or situations where we don't react to things properly, and we are getting punished for them."

The Welling defeat was all the more disappointing given Hampton had broken their FA Trophy curse with a 3-2 win at home to Concorde Rangers on Saturday.

Even here, the hosts had to endure a nervy finish, as two late goals from the Ryman One North side threatened to force a replay after goals from Nathan Collier, a blinder from Stuart Lake and a Barrie Matthews penalty seem to offer a more comfortable passage.

The Beavers now play at home to either Lewes and Eastleigh on December 12.

Jeffrey added: "The FA Trophy, has been our jinx cup competition, but maybe it can be the upside of our season."
