Hammersmith's Amelia Maughan is bound for the Commonwealth Games this summer after getting the call-up to England’s swimming squad.

The 17-year-old was named as part of a 39-strong team for the games in Glasgow, the latest step in her rapid progression in the sport.

Born in Wiltshire to an English father and Danish mother, Maughan lived in west London, but has also competed for Bath where she has studied in recent times.

A bronze medallist in the 4x100m freestyle relay at the World Junior Championships in Lima, Peru in 2011, Maughan built on her growing reputation by swimming a storming second 50 to take bronze in the individual 100m freestyle at The European Junior Championships in Antwerp in Olympic year (2012).

Swimming at the Commonwealth Games takes place at Tollcross International Aquatic Centre from July 24-29.
