PHIL Granville is hoping Harefield United can pick up where they left off when the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division kicks off this weekend.

Granville’s side made a slow start to last term after the new boss was installed at the helm, before coming on strong in the second-half of the campaign. They face a Hadley side who finished only four points below them in the league in 2012-13 on Saturday in what looks a tricky opener for the Hares.

“We’re organised and ready to go,” Granville said.

“They finished below us but they did the double on us last year and not many teams did that.

“When they came to our place they played us off the park and looked a very good side. It’s a tough start.

“But if we can start how we finished last season then we’ll be in the top half no problems. I think we lost four out of our last 23 games or something last year, so we are looking to carry that form on into the start of this season.”

Paolo Cicero and Jake Girt are suspended for the opener but new signing Craig Bartlett, son of Wealdstone manager Gordon, and the returning Jack Reader should be included in the squad.

Harefield will follow the Hadley match with a trip to Berkamsted on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, Sam Hurrell and Jason O’Connor’s Hillingdon Borough start their season at Stotfold before hosting Hanwell Town on Tuesday.
