The future looks bright for Stanmore Golf Club after its juniors won the 2008 South West Herts Golf League.

Facing stiff opposition from 10 other clubs, Stanmore Juniors were unbeaten in a closely contested season and have now qualified for the regional finals.

Led by team captain Kieren O'Keeffe, the side narrowly missed out on winning the Middlesex League, having been narrowly beaten in their final game of the season.

Juniors organiser, Harpal Punia, said: "This must be one of the strongest teams we have ever put out from Stanmore. Team morale is excellent and everyone at Stanmore is very proud of them."

Stanmore Golf Club has set some ambitious targets and are committed to offering youngsters the opportunity of trying out the sport from an early age.

Victorious skipper O'Keeffe added: "A primary aim at Stanmore is to widen opportunities for U18s and encourage more youngsters to the game.

"Complete beginners can find out how to get started, while those who have already been bitten by the golfing bug can compete for their place in the team."
