ROB Gilmour is hoping his veterans win at the Alton 10 last weekend will be the start of a turn around in fortunes.
The Hounslow & District Wheelers cyclist had previously had a relatively quiet racing season so far this year, showing only modest form.
However, his time of 22 minutes 1 second was not only fast enough to give him the vets’ prize in his age group at Alton, but would also comfortably have won him the same award in the next younger group.
It also gave him 11th place overall from a field of 74 entrants, and should act as a spur to recapture the excellent form he has enjoyed in recent years.
Two other fast rides by Hounslow members came from Nic Stagg, whose 21.49 gave him eighth place, and Stuart Stow, with 22.41 for 13th place.
These times would often have secured Hounslow the team prize, but having the event winner and third placed rider helped Kingston Wheelers carry off the team award.
