Gill Gibbs had double reason to celebrate at Hatch End Tennis Club's Veterans' Finals Day recently.

Gill and her Ladies' Doubles partner Valerie Piper beat reigning champions Janet Kerridge and Jenny Ramprakash 6-4, 7-5 in the final before she bagged her second trophy of the day after winning the Mixed Doubles final.

She and partner Wayne Harrington Green stormed to the first set 6-1 but opponents Hilary Lewis and Gerry Gliven fought back to take the second 6-7. However, Gill and Harrington Green regained their composure to clinch the final set 6-2 and the match. Gibbs was denied a hat-trick of successes after going down 6-0, 3-6, 8-6 to Hilary Lewis in the Ladies' Singles.

Elesewhere, last year's Men's Singles champion Bernard Dokelman retained his crown with a straight sets triumph over Victor Savitsky (6-1, 6-4).

Dokelman also toasted a double triumph after he and Seng Yeoh came from behind to retain their Men's Doubles title against David Gilmore and John Reeves.

The pair lost the first set 5-7 but won the next two 6-3, 6-4. * Hatch End Tennis Club in Clonard Way is happy to welcome new members and coaching is available for all ages and standards. For more details call coach Simon Lazenby on 0792 1368 549.
