NEAL Ardley admitted he felt great relief that AFC Wimbledon's season was up and running with a first win of the season.

The Dons boss was anxious to get a win at the first time of asking on home soil to set the tone for the campaign, and would have taken a sub-standard display as long as the result was right.

“It was important, no matter how we got it, to clock up some points,” Ardley said.

“It was massive today. I would have taken a bad performance and a 1-0, but today I thought we got a decent performance and a 1-0, so it's really really pleasing.

“First home game I knew there would be a little bit of expectation our fans might have because it's a new season with new players and we could end up being deflated. I was a bit worried about that.

“Now we have four points and are undefeated and we want to make sure it stays that way.”

Ardley added: “Pre-season's been so hot that every game we've played has been a slow tempo and we've controlled games with our passing. Then you come into the season and you want to up the tempo and it's hard play that little bit more of a passing game when you're upping the tempo, so you have to find that balance.

“We'll be caught between two stools at times but I think we've got players who can cause problems and that's really really pleasing.”
