THEY left it late in the day, but Fulham finally completed the signing of Aussie Ryan Williams from cash-strapped Portsmouth before the transfer deadline.

The highly-rated teenager - the younger brother of Middlesbrough's Rhys Williams - has agreed a two and a half year deal with the Cottagers for an undisclosed fee.

The Whites saw off competition for the 18-year-old winger from West Brom and Aston Villa, having had the youngster training with them and turning out for the reserves earlier in the week.

"It's such a big move coming to a Premiership club," he said. "It's a big step forward for me."

Williams, who hails from Perth in Western Australia, had been at Pompey on a scholarship since July 2010 and made 20 appearances for the south coast club.

He joins Russian striker Pavel Pogrebnyak in the home dressing room, the 28-year-old's £3m move from VfB Stuttgart having also been concluded on deadline day as Bobby Zamora departed to QPR for £4m.
