There were four national weightlifting records set, as well as an European U23 Championships qualifying mark, as the Stars for the Future Annual Tournament.

The event was held by the club, which covers all west London boroughs, at Feltham Community College last week.

The European U23 Championships qualifying mark was set by Hounslow's Adam Mattiussi in the 77kg category, having snatched 130 kg and clean and jerked 161 kg, which also made him best U23 male lifter on the day.

Louis Hampton, of Ealing, lifted in the 62kg category and snatched 100kg and clean and jerked 121kg to set three UK records – in snatch, clean and jerk and total.

Euro mark: Adam Mattiussi qualifies for the European U23s

Having recently come back from injury, and with only two weeks of training prior to the competition, he just missed out on qualifying for the European U23s, but had the consolation of being best U18 male lifter.

Se Gavin, of Harrow, snatched 86 kg, which is another U15 British record, but missed the 111kg clean and jerk, which could be another two UK records – one for clean and jerk and one for the total lift.

Also unfortunate was Dean Bakasa, of Hounslow, in the 62kg category, who managed an 80kg snatch and 100kg clean and jerk, but missed the 86kg and 109 kg liftd which would have given him a British U17 record.

Shila Panjavi , of Ealing, lifted a new 5kg personal best of 65kg snatch and 90kg clean and jerk in the 58kg category to become best female U23 lifter.

Having had 10 months away from the sport, Shonagh Woodburn-Hall, of Hounslow, also did well to manage a 5kg personal best with a 54kg snatch and 70kg clean and jerk to become best female U18 lifter.

There was a personal best too for Ealing's Tia Gayle in the 58kg category, lifting a 40kg snatch and 50kg clean and jerk to become best U13 female lifter at the age of 11, while best male U13 lifter was Harrow's Simran Barr, with 45kg and 55kg in the 56kg category.

Hillingdon's Nam Ahmadi lifted 95kg and 120kg in the 62kg, while Harrow's Sorcha Gavin managed 47kg and 62kg.
