HAYES & Yeading's out-of-contract midfielder Jamie Hand is set to sign a new deal at Church Road.

The 26-year-old ex-Watford and Lincoln City professional has had the option of quitting Garry Haylock's men as his short-term deal expired on September 26.

But Hand, who continued his impressive form with another commanding midfield display in the 1-0 win at Darlington on Saturday, will be rewarded with a new contract offer.

“The manager has approached me about signing something else,” Hand confirmed. “It is just a case of sitting down and thrashing it out, but I think something will be sorted soon.

“I am enjoying my football here and the manager has made it easy for me to do that. It was a very good performance from us on Saturday. It is easy to go to a big stadium like that and be intimidated by the place as it is something that a lot of the boys might not be used to. It was a fantastic win and their fans were cheering our passes at the end – I think they appreciated the way we played football.”

Hand's midfield partnership with skipper Peter Holmes and Bradley Pritchard has been pivotal in Hayes & Yeading's recent revival that has seen them lose just once in five games and win back-to-back matches for the first time this season.

Hand, who has had 13 clubs already in his career, says he has recaptured the enthusiasm he had when he was a teenager – and he believes that Hayes & Yeading can do much more than merely survive relegation.

“I have been working hard and putting a lot of effort into my football – it is something I should have done years ago,” he added. “It is like I am 16 or 17 again when I used to play for Watford. I have put my heart and soul into it for four or five months since the last season finished.

“I am very pleased with my performances, but if the team win it makes it much better. If we can string three or four wins together then we can be at least mid-table and then kicking on for a top-10 finish.”
