FORMER Harlequins Rugby League captain and England international Rob Purdham has announced his retirement from the professional game.

Purdham announced earlier this year he would be leaving Quins, who have since reverted to their former name of London Broncos, to return home to Cumbria with wife, who has recently given birth to their first child.

Purdham played 245 games in a career spanning 12 years, including 55 for Whitehaven, 178 for both Broncos and Quins, and 12 representative appearances, including in the 2008 Rugby League World Cup.
